What we know (as of 1 October 2026)
- Launched 1 October 2026 by NIPOST, announced by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani.
- Each postcode has 11 characters and is GIS-located to a single building.
- The postcode belongs to the building, not the person. If you move, you use your new building's postcode.
- Finding, saving and sharing a postcode is free for individuals, on the website or the NIPOST Postcode app (Android on Google Play; iPhone listed as coming soon).
- Can't find your building? You can request a postcode on the website or app; NIPOST reviews the request and assigns one.
- Businesses can verify addresses through an official API (developer account required).
- NIPOST has not yet said what happens to the old 6-digit numeric postcodes.
